Hidalgo leather tree saddles

HOW DO THEY WORK?

A new Hidalgo leather tree saddle may feel stiff to begin with, but with the rider’s weight and body heat, and the horse’s body heat and movement, the tree will begin to mould to the shape of the horse and the seat becomes even deeper and softer. The gullet will widen on its own to create a custom fit for the horse.

GREAT CLOSE CONTACT FEEL

Hidalgo saddles offer a very close contact feel after they are “ridden-in”. The leather tree takes between 20-30 hours of riding to become perfectly shaped to the horse (and rider!).

Below are two videos that show you the difference in feel between a brand new saddle, compared to one that has been used.

EASILY ADJUSTABLE FOR OPTIMAL FIT AT ALL TIMES

Another advantage is that you do not need a conventional saddle fitter to adjust any flocking, alter gullet width or tree angle of the saddle in any way. If the horse changes shape, so will the saddle! You can adjust the balance of the saddle by moving the panels yourself or contact us for help and advice or to get our preferred saddle fitter's contact details.

USE THE SAME SADDLE ON MULTIPLE HORSES

Your leather tree saddle can also be used on more than one horse. In some cases, you may need different shims inside the saddle pad, and you may need to change the position of the panels. However, if you have a super wide horse, and a very narrow horse, it’s best to have a saddle for each of them if the very wide horse needs a saddle with the Shire tree. The Wide and Medium wide horses pictured here can be ridden in the same saddle.

CHOOSE BETWEEN A STANDARD AND WIDE VERSION

The standard leather tree is suitable for most horses, but for extremely wide horses we can also supply the saddle with a “shire tree”. The Shire tree saddle is wider because the stirrup bar support element is wider. This ensures that the saddle doesn't sit too high on the horse, and that it sits comfortably.

This Wide horse suits the regular saddles. The next two super wide horses need the Shire tree.
