Saddle panels
INFORMATION
Each Hidalgo saddle comes with detachable saddle panels.
The panels are constructed of several layers of wool felt and foams. There is a harder but flexible material against the saddle side, and the panel gets progressively softer towards the horse. They are extremely well constructed, and very comfortable.
Detachable panels can be ordered from 36cm long, up to any length that fits under the saddle. The required panel length is individually determined by consulting with us prior to purchase.
Standard thickness for the panels is displayed as 4/4/4; this means that they are 4cm thick at the front, 4cm in the middle, and 4cm at the back. The panels can be ordered in varying thicknesses if required, or a shim pad used to balance the saddle. If the horse has any muscle atrophy or lacks topline, the shim pad is used to fill those areas in.
We can offer panels that are reinforced with an additional felt layer for heavier riders, or for riders spending long (or fast!) hours in the saddle.
Dressage saddles, jumping/GP (VS), Spanish saddles, and Western/trekking saddles all have their own panel shape.
All panels have additional trapezius relief built in. The upper front corner of the panel is either beveled or removed entirely depending on the panel shape, which ensures that there is no pinching on the upper area of the withers.

Different types of panels

WESTERN
Spanish saddles have three different panel shapes available.
Spanish Spezial These are the panels that come as standard under Spanish Spezial series saddles, and are upholstered in Italian leather.
Spanish Porto These panels come as standard with Sanlucar saddles. They can be ordered to come under any of the other Spanish saddles too. This panel is especially nice for wide horses, as the panel doesn’t have the “leg” at the rear.
Spanish Zebra This panel comes as standard under the Series II saddles. The Zebra panel has the entire upper front corner removed. It’s a great panel for horses with big shoulders, but works well on normal horses too.
